IBPOC / EQUITY-SEEKING ARTIST CATEGORY

Everyone must start somewhere, but not everyone has equal access to the opportunities and resources to do so. To address this, we use a lottery system to award equity-seeking artists support for their Fringe Festival show.

In this instance, “equity-seeking” refers to an artist who self-identifies as a voice that is traditionally under-represented and under-resourced on theatre stages and in festival settings. For example, equity-seeking artist may identify as, but not limited to, an IBPOC artist, transgender artist, disabled artist, or neuro-divergent artist.

Many artists who may be described by others as equity-seeking may not identify as equity seeking themselves, but we encourage them to self-identify regardless. We strive to provide equity not only to artists, but also to our audience members. If you feel that you can contribute to an under-represented audience seeing reflections of themselves on stage, we encourage you to participate in this lottery.
